NOR Amendment #1 is to clarify the status of required Safety at Sea certifications per NOR Addendum 1, 4.3.2, which says:
4.3.2 At least 30% of those aboard the boat, but not fewer than two members of the crew, unless racing single handed, including the person in charge, shall have attended a half-day, one-day, or two-day US Sailing Safety at Sea Seminar within the last 5 years, including online courses when available, or other courses as accepted by US Sailing or other national authority.
With respect to “…within the last 5 years,…” Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, International Offshore Safety at Sea certificates with Hands-On training (two day) earned in 2015 (exp. 2020) and 2016 (exp. 2021) will remain valid through the end of 2021.
Sailors wanting to certify, or recertify for Coastal (half-day) or Offshore (one day) Safety at Sea certificates may do so via online courses currently available.
Sailors who have taken the Offshore Safety at Sea course in 2019, 2020 or 2021, and want to upgrade to the International Offshore certificate (by attending the Hands-On portion of the course) have until the end of 2022 to upgrad their current certificates.
